Watch: Ariana Grande Spends Time With Ex Ricky Alvarez After Ethan Slater Breakup
Ariana Grande is giving a sweet shoutout to her ex-boyfriend Ricky Alvarez.
Indeed, one day after the “Sweetener” singer hung out with her ex, she changed the lyrics about Alvarez in her song “Thank U, Next” during her Eternal Sunshine Tour concert in Austin, Texas, on her birthday June 26.
As seen in fan footage from the concert, which Alvarez attended, Grande, 33, modified the lyrics to the track, sharing a hint about where she stands with the dancer, whom she dated from 2015 to 2016.
In the verse about her ex-boyfriends, Grande sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / I know he still got my back,” the second part of which is a change from “Now I listen and laugh.”
While the Arianators went wild over the lyric tweak, a concertgoer caught Alvarez’s live reaction to the change. In the social footage, the 33-year-old looked on and subtly smiled while a man—who fans believe is Grande’s dad Edward Butera—shook his hand. The singer’s mom Joan Grande also casually gestured to Alvarez during the shoutout.
And that wasn’t the first time Grande changed the song lyric about Alvarez.
After all, the Wicked star—who is currently in Austin for a three-show stint—tweaked the same “Thank U, Next” line on her first night performing at the Moody Center on June 24.
In fan videos from the concert, Grande sang, “Wrote some songs about Ricky / And they still really slap.”
The next day, the Grammy winner was seen enjoying a meal with Alvarez and a friend at De Nada Cantina in Austin, according to photos on social media. Grande donned a black Eternal Sunshine Tour T-shirt, while Alvarez wore an Elysia band tee, revealing his arm tattoos.

And while the “Hate I Made You Love Me” singer and Alvarez have remained friends in the 10 years since their split, their public reunion came just weeks after news broke that Grande and her Wicked costar Ethan Slater had parted ways months prior.
Following the news that the pair had called it quits, a source told E! June 8, “They have quietly been broken up after nearly three years together.”
