Watch: Dakota Johnson, Role Model Break Up Weeks After He Confirmed Romance
Alan Ritchson and Catherine Ritchson are closing a chapter.
The Reacher actor and his wife announced they have broken up after 20 years of marriage, with the couple—who first met as teenagers—sharing the news in a joint statement.
“After twenty years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the pair began in a Sept. 12 Instagram post. “We grew up together. We built a life and family together. And we are raising three incredible boys who will always be the center of our world.”
Alan and Catherine—who share sons Calem, 13, Edan, 12, and Amory, 10—continued, “Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us—or the love and respect we will always share.”
The two went on to emphasize that their main focus is co-parenting their kids along with prioritizing their own personal growth as individuals.
“The best gift we can give one another—and our boys—right now is friendship, grace and commitment to becoming the strongest co-parents we can be,” the statement continued. “We also want to give each other room to grow into the people we are becoming.”
Ultimately, Alan, 43, and Catherine want to be able to adjust to their new normal in private.
“Change is hard enough without the world weighing in,” they wrote. “We hope, especially for the sake our boys, that you will allow our family to move through this chapter with privacy and compassion. Thank you for supporting us as we continue making the health and happiness our family our priority.”
The War Machine star met Catherine when they were 17 and 16, respectively, during a dance class in high school. While they called it quits after a brief teen romance, the pair reconnected years later when Catherine was in college, and later tied the knot in May 2006.

Alan praised his wife in a heartfelt post while celebrating their 19th anniversary and Mother’s Day last year.
“I’m the luckiest man alive,” he wrote alongside a May 2025 Instagram montage. “To be able to build the treasure that is our marriage and family is and always will be the greatest privilege and success of my life.”
“@catritchson you are wisdom personified,” he added. “Strength incarnate. A tantalizing percolation of joy, adventure and love. The boys and I are so beyond blessed to be able to journey with and for you. Happy Mother’s Day/19th Wedding anniversary momma. You deserve to be revered and celebrated forever and always.”
