Official Trailer for ‘Checkout’ Spy Gone Rogue Comedy with Josh Pais​

Some men check in. Some men disappear. Freestyle Digital Media has revealed the official trailer for a film titled Checkout, an indie film spy comedy made by the filmmaker Jonathan Dekel. This first premiered a few years ago & is only now getting a release direct-to-VOD this month. The film follows a desperate Mossad spy who’s forced to retire yet goes rogue so he can catch a legendary terrorist. Checkout is a wickedly funny spy comedy about identity, obsession, and the thin line between a good story and a total lie. A desperate spy is interrogated about his relationship with a legendary terrorist, and every time he tells the story, it spirals further into farce. Starring character actor Josh Pais as Dov, Norman Issa, Dar Zuzovsky, Aki Avni, Yael Sharoni, & Oz Zehavi. One of the positive reviews quoted on the poster calls this a “Wes Anderson-ish espionage romp” which definitely sounds like fun – just hope it lives up to that description. Take a look.

On the outskirts of 1990s Istanbul, a tired American writer named Theo drifts through the same hotel days on repeat: the breakfast buffet, the afternoon nap, the long hours of watching strangers in the lobby. When his editor tells him it’s time to retire, Theo begs for more time to find his inspiration. But Theo is not Theo. He’s Dov, an Israeli operative. The editor is his Mossad handler. And the inspiration he’s hunting is a man marked for death. Just as a defeated Dov checks out, a gentle stranger calling himself Amal checks in instead. He may just be the arch-terrorist Israeli Intelligence has chased for decades, or he is nobody at all. What follows is a race against the clock, a shifting confession, and a hilarious fiasco of a man trying to prove who someone else is while also losing track of who he is…

Checkout is directed by American-Israeli filmmaker Jonathan Dekel, making his feature directorial debut after making a few other short films previously. The screenplay is written by Jonathan Dekel & Shai Satran. Produced by Shalom Eisenbach, Tami Leon, Chilik Michaeli, Avraham Pirchi. Freestyle Digital Media debuts Dekel’s Checkout film direct-to-VOD starting on October 16th, 2026 this fall. Anyone want to watch this?
