“You can’t be at peace with life, unless you’re at peace with death.” Studiocanal has revealed the must see first look teaser trailer for the French film titled Violette, the latest from beloved French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet (also of Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, Alien: Resurrection, Amélie, A Very Long Engagement, Micmacs). It’s his next since that sci-fi disaster Bigbug a few years ago and looks much, much better. French-Algerian actress Leïla Bekhti (from All That Glitters, “Beirut”, “Midnight Sun”, “The Eddy”) stars as the titular Violette. Based on the international bestseller “Fresh Water for Flowers.” The peaceful life of Violette, a cemetery caretaker in a small town in Burgundy, is disrupted when a local police chief’s arrival uncovers long-buried secrets, pushing her to confront her past to take another chance on life and love. The new movie also features Matthias Schoenaerts, Melvil Poupaud, Anouk Grinberg, Sergio Castellitto, Alban Lenoir, and Elodie Batard Gaultier. This feels much more like something similar to Jeunet’s classic Amelie than his more dark & weird sci-fi films previously. This looks absolutely wonderful so far! Still not entirely sure what is going on with her, but excited to watch and find out more. View below.
Here’s the first teaser trailer (+ poster) for Jean-Pierre Jeunet’s film Violette, direct from YouTube:

Violette Toussaint, a cemetery caretaker in a town in Burgundy, is a unique observer & a compassionate listener. Her peaceful life is filled by conversations with quirky cemetery workers and the many visitors who share their stories of love, loss, and life. However, her routine is disrupted when a local police chief arrives at her door with an unusual request. As they grow closer, Violette comes to understand that the truth behind long-buried mysteries in her past must be uncovered if she wants to take another chance on life and, against all odds, love. Violette is directed by acclaimed French filmmaker Jean-Pierre Jeunet, writer and director of the feature films Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, Alien: Resurrection, Amélie, A Very Long Engagement, Micmacs, The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet, and Bigbug. The screenplay is written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet & Guillaume Laurant. Adapted from the novel “Fresh Water for Flowers” (or “Changer l’eau des fleurs”) by Valérie Perrin. Produced by Thibault Gast, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Matthias Weber, Nicola Serra, Carlo Degli Esposti. Studiocanal debuts Jeunet’s Violette film in French cinemas first on December 9th, 2026 this year – and more theaters worldwide starting in early 2027. Look any good?
