Watch: Kelly Clarkson Shares Real Reason She’s Not Ready to Date Again
Kelly Clarkson is calling out an establishment’s big mistake. Big. Huge.
The Grammy winner shared she had an unsatisfactory experience while shopping in a swanky New York City store, comparing the encounter to how Julia Roberts’ character Vivian was treated in the 1990 film Pretty Woman.
“Just drove all the way to Brooklyn to check out this store I thought looked really rad and had a few things in mind to buy,” Clarkson wrote on X Oct. 10, “and literally was looked at as if I couldn’t afford it and was told he could find something comparable for me.”
“Wow, dude,” she added. “You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale.”
The “Stronger” singer went on to name drop the store before telling her followers to visit the establishment “if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman,” adding alongside a thumbs down emoji, “For sure, check it out.”
E! News has reached out to the store for comment but has not heard back.
In her post, the 44-year-old is of course referencing the iconic scene in the film when Vivian goes to an upscale boutique, only for the salesperson to mistreat her due to her casual appearance.
But in a later scene, Vivian returns to the store wearing expensive clothes and holding multiple shopping bags from other outfitters before giving the rude salesperson a piece of her mind, famously telling the employee she made a “big mistake. Big. Huge.”

Clarkson—mom to kids River, 12, and Remington, 10, with late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock—moved to New York City in 2023 after relocating The Kelly Clarkson Show from Los Angeles to the Big Apple. At the time, she shed light on how the move proved beneficial for her young family, especially after her 2022 divorce from the talent manager.
“I was very depressed for the last three years—and maybe a little before that, if I’m being honest. I think I really needed the change,” Clarkson told People that year. “I needed it for me and my family as well. My kids are thriving here. We’re just doing so much better, and we needed a fresh start.”
But after filming seasons five through seven inside the city’s iconic 30 Rock building, she announced in February that she’d be breaking away from the talk show for good.

And while Clarkson shared it was “not an easy decision,” it was one she made for her family.
“Stepping away from the daily schedule will allow me to prioritize my kids, which feels necessary and right for this next chapter of our lives,” Clarkson wrote in a statement on X Feb. 2, teasing that her hosting duties still might not be totally over. “This isn’t goodbye. I’ll still be making music, playing shows here and there, and you may catch me on The Voice from time to time.”
