Hugh and Diana’s new sci-fi game Pragmata could have been “a little bit more” horror-focused, according to the game’s lead producer Masachika Kawata.

During an interview last month, he mentioned how early in Pragmata’s development, Capcom was still very much experimenting with “what type of game” it could be, and “at one point”, there was the idea to go down a more terrifying pathway, which is often a great fit with the sci-fi genre.

However, being a new IP, this game gave Capcom the opportunity to do something different (rather than overlap another series like Resident Evil), and so it moved away from this idea.

ā€œAt one point, there was an idea to make something a little bit more horror focused…Stepping back a little, this was going to be a new series, a new IP, and so horror, which seems to have a lot in common with Resident Evil, didn’t seem like the most compelling use of the new title.ā€

Although Pragmata shifted away from horror, elements of it remain in the game, such as the human-looking robots. For some players, this might already be horrifying enough, so it’s good to see Capcom decided to make this game a little more welcoming than certain other titles.
