Minecraft Switch 2 Pre-Orders Now Live, Free Digital Upgrade Path Confirmed As “Limited Time Offer”

Ahead of the release of Minecraft on the Switch 2 on 27th October 2026, Mojang has now sent pre-orders for this version of the game live.

It’s also provided some additional information about the “digital upgrade path” for owners of the Switch game. If you do already have a digital version of the title, until the end of January 2027 you’ll be able to pre-order digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch 2 for free.

“If you already own a digital version of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch™– we’ve got you covered. Until the end of January 2027, you’ll be able to pre-order digital Minecraft Standard Edition for Nintendo Switch™ 2 for free in most territories. (excludes Japan and Taiwan)”

You can also choose to upgrade to a Deluxe Collection or Ultimate Collection for discounted fees. Just keep in mind, this is a “limited time offer” and “only available through the Nintendo eShop”.

If you aren’t eligible for the digital upgrade path, Minecraft on Switch 2 will cost $29.99 USD. It’s also available in stores (it’s a Game-Key Card release). And if we hear anything about an upgrade path for existing physical owners, we’ll provide an update.

In case you missed it, the Switch 2 version of Minecraft will support the Vibrant Visuals graphics upgrade, which comes with “enhanced lighting, shadow effects and more”. All versions of the Switch 2 version also includes the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, and it supports Vibrant Visuals.
