Watch: John Goodman, 74, Looks Unrecognizable After 200-Pound Weight Loss in New Photo
John Goodman wouldn’t have nothing if he didn’t have Anna Beth Goodman.
And Monsters Inc. alum proved it so while stepping out at the Los Angeles premiere of Digger—in which he stars alongside Tom Cruise and Riz Ahmed—with his wife of 37-years by his side.
In photos from the Sept. 28 premiere, John wrapped his arms around his wife and the duo—who are parents to Molly Evangeline Goodman, 36—appeared happy as could be to make a date night out of the premiere of the Alejandro G. Iñárritu film.
Meanwhile, John’s latest outing was another opportunity for the Roseanne star to put his recent 200-pound weight loss on display. Earlier this year, John stunned fans while posing in a photo alongside Wizards of Waverly Place alum David DeLuise, looking completely transformed following his weight loss journey.
John first shared insight into his health journey back in 2016, which he admitted needed to be a slow and steady process to ensure his new habits stuck.
“In the old days, I would take three months out, lose 60 or 70 pounds, and then reward myself with a 6-pack of Bud or whatever and just go back to my old habits,” John explained to ABC News at the time. “Then this time I wanted to do it slowly, move, exercise. I’m getting to the age where I can’t afford to sit still anymore. And it gives me the energy to work, ‘cause work is very draining.”
A lifestyle change finally became essential to him when he got “sick and tired” of looking at himself in the mirror, admitting, “It gets dangerous.”
Indeed, The Big Lebowski alum explained that his past struggles with overeating felt intertwined with his past alcoholism—both of which he had to overcome with deep inner reflection.

“You’re trying to fill a hole that can’t be filled unless it’s filled with goodness, some kind of spirituality, not saying religion,” he explained. “But just a belief in something higher than yourself, a purpose. But instead of filling it with booze or cocaine or food, you just acknowledge that it’s there. You can’t fill it. And you go on and live with it.”
Years later, the 74-year-old gave another update on his slow and steady weight loss, noting he had lost 200 pounds and began boxing to keep himself active.
“I dug it,” he told Rolling Stone in 2023. “Nobody’s going to get hurt, but it’s just hitting the mitts and trying to learn.”
