Nikki Bella’s high-profile relationship with John Cena may have ended long ago, but wrestling never forgets, and the former Divas Champion has recently signaled she’s okay with continuing to be linked to the retired legend.
In fact, Nikki even threw out her own reference to Cena over the weekend when responding to a fan’s criticism on social media.
Weeks before Bella’s response to the fan, Paige brought up the failed engagement between Nikki and Cena during a segment in the September 4th episode of SmackDown that was meant to further the feud between the two women stars. Paige even went so far as to insinuate Bella got her way to the top of WWE’s female division by sleeping with Cena.
On an episode of The Nikki & Brie Show, Nikki discussed the promo battle with Paige and said she enjoys bringing personal issues in WWE promos in order to get reactions from fans.
“I’m all for what entertains a crowd, what helps make a crowd react. I’ve always loved bringing something personal into it. It all got stirred up from what they were chanting [Cena’s name] in Canada,” Nikki said on the podcast. “If they never chanted that, none of the stuff in the promo would’ve ever happened, right? So it’s just kind of fallen into place that way. The crowd – just being there, because we shot that live, it was amazing to hear the reactions. And even the stuff I brought before, and it is funny to see the reactions online. You know, very torn.”
Now, Nikki has gone a step further by making her own not-subtle-at-all reference to her famous ex.
The reference occurred when someone posted on Meta’s Threads about a backstage confrontation on the September 18th episode of SmackDown between Bella and WWE Women’s Champion Chelsea Green.
“Somebody please tell Nikki Bella… her time is UP,” the person posted with a screenshot of Nikki and Chelsea.
Bella responded directly to the post by writing: “My time is NOW 💋”
As most fans probably know, Cena’s WWE theme song “The Time Is Now” —which came from his 2005 album You Can’t See Me — features the line “Your time is up, my time is now.”
Nikki’s Threads message did indeed get a reaction from fans, with some praising her in the comments for the comeback while others disapproved of her allusion to her former romantic partner.
