Orlando Bloom is cutting straight to the chase about his latest steamy sex scene.
The actor—who plays Gareth in director Werner Herzog’s most recent film Bucking Fastard—detailed filming a threesome alongside costars Rooney Mara and Kate Mara for the project.
Noting that there’s “such simplicity to the characters and [their] carnal desires, but also an innocence to the sisters” during a recent appearance at the San Sebastián Film Festival in Spain, per Variety, Orlando added, “My character, the Bucking Fastard, is sensitive too. And he’s quite quickly out of his depth in some ways. It was a very sincere sort of moment that was created.”
Bucking Fastard follows Jean (Kate) and Joan (Rooney), two sisters who are “so close to each other that they speak in unison, love the same man, and have the same dreams,” a synopsis for the film reads. “They even make the same slip of tongue in unison.”
“We cannot see the world as they see it,” the description continues, “but we do see how the world reacts to them—through the courts and the press, through those that want to help and those who want to use them, through the eyes of beasts both tame and wild, and even through their own echoes in the core of the earth.”
As for what Herzog approach to the scene?

“There are moments when a director has to step back,” the filmmaker said. “In the love scene, I said to Orlando, ‘You are in bed, and you have two women in your arms. How you deal with it, I cannot give instructions.’ It is beautiful because it has such charm and depth.”
But the film wouldn’t mark the only project where The Lord of the Rings actor—dad to son Flynn, 15, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr and daughter Daisy, 6, with ex-fiancée Katy Perry—has tested his limits. After all, he shed 52 pounds to step into his role as The Boxer in his 2025 film The Cut.
“I was exhausted mentally, physically. I was hangry,” Orlando said during an August 2025 appearance on This Morning. “I was a horrible person to be around. The paranoia, the intrusive thoughts.”

But it was his team who got him through.
“I had a great nutritionist. He was checking my blood and stuff,” Orlando explained. “He basically tiered me down from three meals a day to two, to one. Suddenly, all these foods were being taken away from me, and my protein powder was the last one. I was like, ‘No! Don’t take that one.’”
And because “it was as intense to film as it looks on camera,” he wouldn’t recommend viewers try it at home. As he put it, “It was definitely not something to take lightly.”
