So sayeth me

The Immortal John Triptych is one of the funniest games I’ve ever played – certainly the funniest since Thank Goodness You’re Here. It compiles three titles from developer Joe Richardson: Four Last Things, The Procession To Calvary, and Death of the Reprobate. All were released between 2017 and 2024, but including them in one package is undeniably the best way to experience them.
Chances are you’ve never played anything that looks quite like this, though you may well be familiar with many of its sights. All three games were built by taking bits and pieces from famous Middle Ages and Renaissance paintings, stitching them all together to form interactive scenes.
You’re looking at traditional point-and-click gameplay in which you directly move your character with the left analogue stick while using the right to cycle through characters and objects to talk to, slap, pick up, or chop to pieces with a sword – no touchscreen support here, though. There are few, if any, major gameplay differences between titles, so it all feels nice and cohesive.
The overarching narrative is the biggest draw, however, as it’s just utterly insane in the best way possible. Each entry has its own contained plot, but there’s a clear throughline with the trilogy. So while you can play in whichever order you want, I would definitely recommend starting with Four Last Things and proceeding in release order.
