“This place is a little creepy, no?” Paramount in Taiwan has revealed the official trailer for a fascinating new animation creation called Welcome to Dolly’s House, heading for release in Taiwan starting in October. This first premiered at the 2026 Annecy Film Festival earlier this summer and next plays at Fantastic Fest in Austin. YouTuber Princess Maria stumbles into a surreal trap after a she finds a video of a girl running from a mysterious woman and is drawn to a eerie, mind bending mansion. Fantasy-horror animation inspired by the “awakening doll” story in the classic literary anthology “Taiping Guanji”. This is Taiwan’s first major rotoscoped 2D animated feature a “true visual proposition.” Fantastic Fest adds: “The slightly uncanny movements serve the story and themes to a T, carrying the film through a slow descent from mystery into gothic horror… [they’ve] created a singular, ambitious, visually rich object, with genuinely unsettling ideas about performance, ownership and the need to belong. When you’ve spent your life performing for others, how do you know who you are?” Starring the voices of Teresa Daley, Hannah Quinlivan, and Ai-Ning Yao. A gothic horror rotoscope film about an influencer?! This looks totally unique – no translation needed.

The new film follows a rising YouTuber Princess Maria’s quest for fame and love spiralling into a surreal nightmare after a scandalous proposal stunt leads her to a reclusive doll maker, a haunting mansion, and the buried secrets of her own identity. Princess Maria has an endearing personality, but she also is eager to please, and plays a submissive role in their relationship that clashes with her partner A-Yue’s more stoic, coldly controlling nature. Welcome to Dolly’s House, also known as 歡迎來到朵莉之家 in Mandarin, is directed by a trio of Taiwanese filmmakers Seven YCH / Ray Fu / Tree Liu. It’s written and created by Seven YCH. This is the adaptation of a story from the book “Taiping Guangji” (“The Great Collection of the Age of Great Peace”), a collection of stories written more than 1000 years ago. Produced by Richard Chou, Dennis Wu, Seven Ych. This initially premiered at the 2026 Annecy Film Festival this summer playing in the Main Competition. Paramount Pictures debuts Welcome to Dolly’s House in cinemas in Taiwan starting October 30th, 2026 this fall. No final US release date is set yet – stay tuned. Anyone want to watch this?
