Mary Kate Golding‘s family is facing a devastating loss.
The Marvelous Ms. Maisel set designer was found dead on July 21 in her New York City apartment after police responded to a “911 call of an assault,” the New York Police Department confirmed in a statement to E! News.
Upon arriving at her home in Astoria, Queens, authorities found Golding—who worked on season two of the Prime Video series—at approximately 12:24 a.m. with “a stab wound to the back.” The 34-year-old was pronounced dead by EMS on the scene.
Police noted that “there are no arrests at this time,” but the investigation is still ongoing.
Approximately six hours later, authorities responded to a 911 call regarding an unconscious person in Astoria Park, the statement continued. A man in his mid-to-early-30s was found unresponsive at 6:39 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NYPD added that “there does not appear to be any criminality at this time” surrounding his death. Though police didn’t publicly share the name of the man, he was identified as Golding’s husband Joseph Azzaretto, 33, according to multiple outlets citing law enforcement sources. Police sources also told The New York Post that their 11-month-old son was found unharmed in their home.
Golding worked on several projects prior to her death, including Goosebumps, The Big Sick, Meet Cute and Goosebumps.
The shocking deaths are yet another tragic chapter in the Azzaretto family, with Azzaretto’s younger brother Nicholas Azzaretto charged with third-degree homicide and voluntary manslaughter in February 2020 in connection with the fatal shooting of their dad Frank Azzaretto, according to Monroe County court documents obtained by E! News.
Nicholas ultimately pleaded guilty to both charges in November 2021 and was sentenced to 10 years of probation, which included two years under electronic monitoring, paying a $7,300 fine, maintaining gainful employment and continuing to receive psychological/psychiatric counseling and treatment, according to docs.
