Despite reports

There are reports doing the rounds, initially published by Kotaku, that Sony has disabled comments on its YouTube channel. This is, at the time I’m writing this, not true.
Multiple trailers have been uploaded to the platform holder’s account today, all with comments enabled as far as I can tell.
The one without comments enabled, for a new sports compilation named Instant Sports 2, is labelled as ‘For Kids’. Videos with this label have their comments automatically disabled by YouTube as part of the Child Online Protection Act, or COPA as you may know it.

In fact, this isn’t a new thing: the announcement trailer for Sesame Street: Friends and Fun – first published over a month ago, before any online backlashes – also has its comments disabled, as it’s labelled ‘For Kids’ as well.
The insinuation from a lot of the reporting here is that PlayStation has cowardly disabled comments in order to silence the backlash to its physical games decision.
But as can be seen on any other recent trailer upload, like the Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls video, this is not the case.
Earlier this week, one dev in particular, the makers of Teeto, acknowledged how its game was being bombarded by physical disc comments. Some frustrated fans are trying to deter their followers from buying software on the PS Store.
I’ve repeated on multiple occasions now that I believe Sony simply must come out and address this, otherwise the backlash isn’t going away. My stance hasn’t changed.
In the case of the company trying to silence the criticism on its YouTube channel, though, that’s simply not true right now.
I’ll update this article in the unlikely event new evidence comes to light.
