“It is time to set the world on fire.” Focus Features has unveiled the first trailer for the epic historical action movie The Uprising, a tale of a uprising from the 14th Century. This is written and directed by English filmmaker Paul Greengrass, his latest after making News of the World & The Lost Bus. In plague-ravaged 14th century England a farmer peasant triggers a rebellion against King Richard II and unintentionally becomes a legend of resistance. Andrew Garfield stars in this historical epic as the Ploughman alongside Wat Tyler, a real folk hero from British history. In the English Peasants’ Revolt in 1381, a farmer becomes a leader of the rebellion against the Crown. This major revolt had various causes, including socio-economic & political tensions generated by the Black Death in the 1340s, high taxes resulting from conflict with France during the Hundred Years’ War, and instability with the local leadership of London. Also stars Jamie Bell, Stephen Dillane, Tom Hollander, Cosmo Jarvis as Wat Tyler, Thomasin McKenzie, Jonny Lee Miller, Woody Norman, Katherine Waterston, Stanley Townsend, Jamie Maclachlan, & Sky Yang. This looks awesome! Did not see this coming. An inspirational revolutionary film to kick off the fall.
