On last week’s big Beach Break edition of Dynamite, AEW reset the scene for its big return to London’s Wembley Stadium for All In on Aug. 30. But they also have a PPV along the way, the first-ever Redemption next Sunday in Montreal; the latest episode of Dynamite was tasked with building the card for that July 26 event.
It did so on last night (July 15) on an episode that saw many of its stories woven through what figures to be All In’s main event, World champ Kenny Omega defending against Owen Hart Cup winner Will Ospreay.
Reigning tag champs Christian Cage and Adam Copeland have been feuding with The Dogs, and via an alliance with Ospreay’s new crew the Death Riders. On the most recent Dynamite, fka Edge & Christian successfully defended the belts against the Riders’ Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia.
No surprise, as Yuta and Garcia are the DRs youngest and most-likely-to-job members. Likewise, it wasn’t shocking when David Finlay and The Dogs attacked the AEW Tag Team champions post-match with the help Death Riders’ heavy hitter Claudio Castagnoli. The Bang Bang Gang arrived to chase off the combined units, and Cage eventually accepted Cope’s alliance with Jay White’s Bullet Club spin-off despite his issues with White*.
Realizing their issues aren’t going to go away just because Switchblade strummed Finlay’s shillelagh instead of swinging it at Christian, Cage and Cope threw out a challenge to Death Riders’ veteran tag team of Claudio Castagnolo and PAC.
When things broke down in the arena earlier, The Young Bucks were watching from a luxury box before heading to the ring to present Omega with a non-Burberry version of the AEW World title. Cage and Cope and Matt & Nick Jackson seem headed toward a dream match in London next month, but you have to wonder how that will play into the story of Kenny and Ospreay, seeing as both teams would figure to be Team Omega at All In given their mutual issues with Death Riders. Jay and Will have a lot of history too though, if the Bang Bang Gang’s alliance with the Tag champs holds.
Much to consider. Do so as you check out this updated card for Sun., July 26 in Montreal:
* Which, for the many others like me that couldn’t really recall the exact details of those issues, stem for a 2024 Trios title feud between The Patriarchy and The BBG, the early stages of Copeland’s friendship with the Gang before his reunion with Christian, and White’s involvement in Cage’s failed cash in at Revolution last year during Mox’s reign of terror with the AEW World title.
