Cody Rhodes has divided a significant amount of his fanbase by sharing photos on social media of himself with U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F Kennedy Jr.
As seen during a segment on the June 29th episode of Raw, Rhodes and fellow WWE stars like Charlotte Flair, Austin Theory, and Rey Mysterio recently made an appearance with Boys and Girls Club of America to promote childhood fitness. Rhodes later posted images from the event, which was also attended by RFK Jr., on his Instagram and X (Twitter) accounts.
One of the pictures featured Rhodes with WWE Chief Content Officer Paul “Triple H” Levesque and Kennedy, who was holding a mock title belt.
The photo of the former Undisputed WWE Champion with a top member of President Donald Trump’s administration resulted in a flood of messages in the comments sections of Rhodes’ accounts.
Many people condemned the association with RFK, including one X user who wrote: “Geez, Cody. I didn’t know you supported this regime.”
“Cozying up to an administration actively destroying your wife’s and child’s history is insane behavior. Do better,” said another person on X.
“Aw c’mon Cody he’s a brain damaged nepo baby maniac stop that…” another wrote.
Along with comments that took exception to Kennedy due to his role in the Trump administration, there were also people who criticized the health secretary for his divisive skepticism regarding vaccines.
“Will never spend a penny on Rhodes stuff after this. Kids are dead as a direct result of his anti vax rhetoric,” said one person expressing this sentiment.
At least one person noted that while Charlotte shared images online of the event, she chose not to include any pics of Kennedy.
“Charlotte Flair was also there, she showed a Pic with Cody but without RFK Jr. Him [Rhodes] highlighting RFK is his choice,” X users Eric Lauzin wrote.
Some people defended The American Nightmare, pointing out Rhodes may have felt promoting the appearance was part of his job. As one X user said: “Wwe is owned by tko who are a maga corporation. I assume cody has to do this sort of stuff for publicity for the company but still not a good look.”
Though they were in the minority of the comments sections, some conservative social media users supported Rhodes posing with RFK. As one person on X wrote: “Thank you Cody for showing respect to President @realDonaldTrump administration. Was very disappointed during Night of Champions but I know you’ll be back soon as champ.”
There were also some fans who tried to highlight the significance of the event itself over the appearance of Kennedy.
“Cody, I command you for standing above the politics of the moment and advocating for something really important, which is general fitness for our kids, whicht [sic] transcends beyond political bias, to the people complaining in the comment section grow up already quit crying,” a person on X wrote.
“GUYS, he did it for Boys & Girls Clubs, not for Trump. Let’s be reasonable,” wrote another defender on X.
However, others said he could have supported the organization without promoting a photo op with Kennedy.
“You’re a real piece of shit. You have no morals. You’re no ‘QB1’ you’re just a sellout for TKO and do their bidding. There’s a special place in hell for men ‘who just follow orders.’ You could have supported ‘Boys and girls clubs’ without RFK Jr and @TripleH,” Mike Burke said on X.
