As you may already know, Dragon’s Dogma creator and Capcom legend Hideaki Itsuno departed the company back in 2024, leading many fans to believe that Dragon’s Dogma 2 — which he directed — would never receive the post-launch support that it deserved.

But of course, Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen was announced earlier this month, finally handing dedicated players the future that they’d be pining for since the RPG’s release over two years ago.

The expansion’s reveal left an important question, though: with Itsuno long gone, who was spearheading the new Dark Arisen?

Well, as it turns out, it’s the old Dark Arisen’s director who’s back in the driving seat. Kento Kinoshita has been confirmed as the DLC’s director — and it’s safe to say this guy knows what he’s doing.

Kinoshita was largely responsible for reshaping the original Dragon’s Dogma through its own Dark Arisen expansion and re-release. Most fans would agree that the addition transformed a great but flawed game into something truly special.

The hope, then, is that the new Dark Arisen will have a similar effect on Dragon’s Dogma 2, especially with Kinoshita at the helm.

The upcoming expansion has a lot of similarities to its predecessor. Once again, it introduces an entirely new endgame-focused area, featuring new monsters and a randomised loot system.

The idea is that you’ll collect relics for appraisal as you go about your adventures in Norgan, resulting in really powerful rewards. Again, it’s proper endgame stuff.

12 deadly dungeons will be introduced through the DLC as well, which you can find scattered across the existing map. It looks as though these locations will house unique rewards of their own.

You can see all of this in action via the above video, at around the 24:19 mark.
