Former Saturday Night Live star Kevin Nealon recently called out Danny DeVito on social media for a wrestling match, and Tony Khan signaled he’s open to booking the bout for AEW.
This unlikely story began on Sunday (April 26) when Nelson wrote on X (Twitter): “I challenge Danny DeVito to a match in the WWE or AEW.”
Later that night, he again addressed DeVito by posting, “I’m here. You’re quiet.” (This message included a doctored AEW announcement graphic featuring “The Trashman,” a wrestling persona once used by DeVito’s character on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.)
Khan took notice and responded to Nealon’s first salvo by sharing a photo of Nealon and DeVito dressed as Austrian bodybuilders from the popular SNL skit “Hanz and Franz.”
“Do you guys own these outfits,” Khan wrote on X, to which Nealon said, “Yep.”
“Then you guys are in,” Khan said.

The AEW president/owner spoke more about the interaction on the Wednesday (April 29) episode of the Battleground Podcast, and he sounded as if he’s ready to make the dream match a reality.
When asked about the back and forth between the two comedy stars, Khan replied: “Is Danny back and forth? Because right now, it seems like Danny DeVito is scared of Kevin Nealon. That’s my interpretation.”
TK continued: “Kevin is ready to fight. I can tell you that. Kevin Nealon is looking for a fight, he’s looking to come into AEW.”
Khan then said that he’s “a big fan of both men,” calling DeVito “such a phenomenal star,” and referring to Nealon as “a brilliant comedian, a brilliant writer, and an actor.”
He went on to note that Nealon worked with former AEW World Champion MJF on the 2025 Adam Sandler film Happy Gilmore 2.
“We’ve got Kevin Nealon here who definitely wants to get involved in AEW, which is really exciting, and if Danny DeVito’s got the guts, we’d love to have him in AEW,” Khan said. “Kevin Nealon, I can say, is moving towards becoming All Elite, I think. It feels like Kevin wants to be here, and I hope Danny does too.”
For his part, Nealon has continued the trash talk on X.
“Training camp update from me Franz. Hear me now and believe me later. Strength and endurance are at their peak. Patience is gone. Still waiting on weakling Danny DeVito to accept the challenge,” he wrote in one post.

In another message, he said: “Franz loves AEW. This is wrestling with power and speed. No fear. It crushes its competitors. Hear me now.”
Meanwhile, DeVito has yet to respond to Nealon’s challenge.
