Dragon Lee hit one of the sickest dives you’ll ever see Monday on Raw.
Facing Rey Fenix, Lee dove through the ropes for what looked like a suicide dive. Mid-air, he changed position and turned it into a senton, wiping Fenix out on the announce desk.
Upon closer inspection, though, Lee got an assist, as fan footage on social media shows referee Adrian “They Also Call Me Darryl Sharma” Butler helping Lee out.
Before Lee takes flight, Butler appears to give “referee instructions” to a downed Fenix. Then, as the Dragon prepares to soar, Butler leans through the ropes as if checking on Fenix.
As he does, Butler pushes the middle rope down with his hands and uses his upper back to push the top rope up, giving Lee more clearance.
Catching refs aiding wrestlers isn’t hard. They’re often seen giving instructions from ringside after a superstar’s win or a beatdown. As Raw went off the air Monday, a referee appeared to give Royce Keys and OTM direction following their assault on the Usos, LA Knight and Solo Sikoa.
Butler’s assistance, though, was subtler and harder to spot on TV, thanks to how WWE shot the scene.
But as this footage shows, great refereeing doesn’t just facilitate the action — it blends in, with the work noticed only by eagle-eyed fans recording on their smartphones at just the right time.
