As the paper industry declines, WWE is doing its part to keep it alive.
On Raw, Bron Breakker and Oba Femi had a contract signing for their September 6 match at Sunday Night’s Main Event. Like every WWE contract signing, they made the match official the old-fashioned way: on paper.
It’s especially ironic considering most WWE event tickets are digital, not paper. Still, WWE’s continued use of this archaic form of documentation is good news for the paper industry.
In May, the American Forest & Paper Association reported that U.S. paper and paperboard production declined 3.7% in 2025. That should come as no surprise, as more people are reading books, news, and documents on phones, tablets, and computers.
Despite this, WWE seemingly hasn’t invested in one of the most basic forms of technology: electronic signature pads. Today, many businesses use these pads to capture a person’s John Hancock.
That’s particularly surprising given WWE’s embrace of another technology: AI.
Then again, considering how WWE contract signings tend to turn physical — as Breakker and Femi’s did Monday — those e-pads probably wouldn’t last long in the line of fire.
