The mysteries of love… 01 Distribution in Italy has revealed the first official trailer for the film The Echo Chamber, an Italian romantic drama from filmmaker Andrea Pallaoro (also Medeas, Hannah, Monica). After premiering Monica at the festival back in 2022, he’s returning once again with his latest film – in both English and Italian. The film is a love story where the boundaries between presence and absence, care and dependence, desire and control blur until they dissolve… The romance is between Luca Marinelli as Leo and Alicia Vikander as Anne, and the cast includes Susan Sarandon (whose “voice echoes across time, carrying to the surface what endures”). This project is based on an old Bernardo Bertolucci screenplay of the same name, however updated through Pallaoro’s lens to tell a heartfelt story about emotional dependency. Andrea took the screenplay as a point of departure, finding in it themes that have long originated his own cinema and reshaping them to create this new film. The Echo Chamber is premiering in the competition in Venice next week before opening in Italian cinemas right after. Stay tuned for first reviews + more updates.
Here’s the first Italian trailer (+ poster) for Andrea Pallaoro’s film The Echo Chamber, from YouTube:

Intro via Venice: “A love story where the boundaries between presence and absence, care and dependence, desire and control blur until dissolving. Leo and Anne circle each other in an endless cycle of longing and separation, intimacy and distance. They cannot let go, nor break free. Through the rooms, Ava’s voice (Susan Sarandon) echoes across time, carrying to the surface what endures – and what can no longer be held back.” The Echo Chamber is directed by the Italian filmmaker Andrea Pallaoro, director of the films Medeas, Hannah, Monica previously. The screenplay is written by Bernardo Bertolucci & Ilaria Bernardini & Ludovica Rampoldi, from a story by Bernardo Bertolucci (based on one of his old scripts). Produced by Carlotta Calori, Francesca Cima, Nicola Giuliano, Viola Prestieri. This is premiering at the 2026 Venice Film Festival playing in the Main Competition. Pallaoro’s The Echo Chamber film also opens in Italian cinemas starting September 10th, 2026. No other international release dates are set yet – stay tuned. Looks good?
