The disappointing summer for inbound tourism to the U.S. — which included visitor numbers for the World Cup that fell short of expectations — got worse in August.
The U.S. received close to 3.1 million visitors last month, an 11.8% year-over-year drop, according to data released on Thursday from the National Travel and Tourism Office. The decline comes after the U.S. saw a 7% decrease in inbound tourism in July.
Arrivals to the U.S. declined across all regions, with the biggest drops coming from Africa (25.5%), Central America (20.6%), and Western Europe (14.8%). Only
