This LEGO Woodland Mushrooms Set Would Make the Perfect Fungi-Themed Decoration

LEGO has been going crazy with the announcements, solidifying a long list of upcoming sets inspired by everything from Shrek to the SEGA Genesis. As a particular fan of LEGO Botanicals, there’s been one announcement in particular that I haven’t been able to stop thinking about.

The LEGO Woodland Mushrooms set is filled with, you guessed it, colorful mushrooms, and the end result looks like a scene from a magical forest. It’s up for preorder now (see it for $79.99 at Amazon or the LEGO Store) and releasing on June 1.

LEGO Woodland Mushrooms Set Out June 1

The LEGO Woodlands Mushrooms set contains 806 pieces and, like most of the Botanicals collection, is marked as an 18+ set for adults. To be honest, my experience with Botanicals would suggest older children can definitely handle the sets, it just comes down to keeping track of some particularly small pieces.

The set itself builds into a small ecosystem of fungi and flowers you’d find on a forest floor. I built the LEGO Willy Wonka set last year, and this set actually seems to take a similar approach to repurposing existing LEGO pieces to form petals, leaves, and, in this case, mushroom tops. Red toadstools sprout from the center, surrounded by a mix of fibrecap, earthstar, chanterelle, bonnet and oyster mushrooms. Thank you, Stardew Valley, for being the main reason I know what any of those are.

It’s not all fungi, either. The mushrooms are framed by purple autumn crocuses and vibrant greenbracken fronds for that extra pop of color. Squint and you’ll even notice some tiny ladybirds hidden among the leaves.

The challenge with some of the LEGO Botanicals sets is they don’t stand on their own, requiring a real life vase or container to display them. This set, however, seems to function quite easily as decor, even without the ‘vase’ workaround the company’s been using on sets like the LEGO Orchid and Chrysanthemum. The woodland mushrooms are composed like a particularly colorful piece of a magical forest floor, and are ready to display the second you finish building them.

Otherwise, as noted, there’s a ridiculous amount of LEGO sets releasing on June 1. Some major highlights include LEGO Shrek, LEGO Sega Genesis, and LEGO Peanuts: Snoopy’s Doghouse. We’ve also gotten plenty of LEGO releases in May, including new Star Wars sets for May the 4th and even some great gift ideas for Mother’s Day.
