Universal Pictures has changed the release dates for two of its biggest upcoming movies.
The studio announced Friday that Miami Vice ‘85 is moving from August 6, 2027 to Friday, May 19, 2028, taking the place of The Mummy 4. An Untitled Universal Event Film will now open on Miami Vice ‘85’s original date.
The Mummy 4 will move from May 19, 2028 to Friday October 15, 2027, taking the place of an Untitled Blumhouse Event Film. That Blumhouse project shifts to Friday, October 8, 2027.
In making the release date announcements Universal also confirmed that Oscar winner Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler will star in Miami Vice ‘85 as undercover cops Ricardo Tubbs and Sonny Crockett.
The studio said Miami Vice ‘85 is “inspired by the pilot episode and first season” of the iconic TV series, and that the Joseph Kosinski-directed movie will bring “current technological expertise to the sights and sounds of the series”.
Both Miami Vice ‘85 and the next installment in the Mummy franchise will be filmed for IMAX.
Universal confirmed that Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles as adventurers Rick and Evie O’Connell in the next Mummy film, which will be directed by Radio Silence’s Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.
