The Cody Rhodes heel turn draws ever closer

CM Punk is the current WWE champion entirely because Randy Orton decided he wants to do everything he can to make sure Cody Rhodes is never going to hold that title again. He did so at SummerSlam last month and the two have been at each other’s throats ever since.

Not physically, of course. No, they’ve been verbally berating each other trying not to get physical because the story they told involved taking away their ability to do so lest they forfeit being able to challenge for the title they’re both so thirsty for. After weeks of not touching, they wasted no time throwing hands here, fighting all around the arena right at the outset.

Cody’s family was indeed in the front row ringside, and his wife ended up throwing a drink in Orton’s face. They went back-and-forth for the first half of the match, then we got multiple referee bumps before The Viper found himself busted open and bleeding from the steel steps on the outside.

Rhodes started to go to that place. With Orton busted up and vulnerable in the ring, Cody started rushing like he was going to hit the patented punt. Orton begged him not to do it, so he stopped. Finally, a new official showed up and Randy used the opening to hit a low blow that hit both Rhodes and the new ref.

He stood up and hit an RKO, Charles Robinson recovered at the perfect time, and that was the finish.

The heel turn draws ever closer.

But does this mean Orton is next in line for a title match?
