Why not? I mean why blooming not?

Dailon Livramento (no, not the England player) sees Unai Simón off his line and decides to have a go from his own half.

It’s not great, but I admire the attempt.

Sidny Lopes Cabral is having a stormer here.

The lad may have been booked earlier, but bar that, he has been dominating Spain’s right-hand side.

He wins the ball yet again, then sets off on his bike before drawing a foul.

No wonder he plays in Europe!

GOOD TACKLE! Spain 0-0 Cape Verde

Wow!

Sidny Lopes Cabral, that is superb defending.

The full-back may be on a booking, but you wouldn’t be able to tell as he leaps into a huge sliding tackle to take the ball from Mikel Oyarzabal in the box.

It’s a brilliant and brave challenge that comes off.

CHANCE! Spain 0-0 Cape Verde

Erm, I’m not sure why that got such a big reaction.

There is a huge ‘ooooo’ as Marc Cucurella has a crack at goal from outside the box.

However, that makes it sound like the strike was close, but it went way over the bar.

Oh, hello…

Cape Verde finally make a foray forward, and it ends up with Marc Cucurella having to do some half-decent defending.

After initially being rinsed by Ryan Mendes, he does well to then block his volley.

‘Jeers for the break’

Oliver Salt at Atlanta Stadium:

There were huge jeers in the stadium as the game came to a halt for the first of two hydration breaks. But whether that was for FIFA’s controversial new rule or Spain’s poor start is unclear.

De la Fuente’s men just haven’t got going early on. They’ve been uncharacteristically sluggish and sloppy in possession so far, and Cape Verde won’t have found that first 25 minutes too taxing. A long way to go though…

Pedri actually looks like he needs the hydration break, in fairness.

The man looks like he has been taking Marcos Llorente’s advice and not wearing sunscreen (if you know, you know). Very red in the face.

Anyway, the break is over now thank goodness.

And now for the hydration break inside a ground that has a closed roof and air conditioning.

Make it make sense…

That’s why you are a defender, Pau.

Cubarsi may be as talented a 19-year-old as you can get, but he isn’t exactly a player you expect to score.

He shows that he should stick to defending by drilling a tame effort wide from 30 yards.

Not even close.

Spain 0-0 Cape Verde

Cape Verde’s plan is plain and simple: sit back and counter.

The moment they get the ball, one of the defenders just lumps it up the other end of the pitch and hopes for the best.

Safe to say, it ain’t working so far.

YELLOW CARD: Spain 0-0 Cape Verde

Erm… am I watching football?

Going by that challenge by Sidney Lopes Cabral, it doesn’t exactly look like it.

He loses the ball to Marcos Llorente, so he proceeds to just shove him over at neck height. Not great.

He gets a yellow.

CHANCE! Spain 0-0 Cape Verde

Now that is what you call a desperate attempt from Pedri.

What is he thinking? Cape Verde give him the ball and the midfielder has umpteen options either side of him.

But rather than pass or make his way into the box, he rushes a shot from 25 yards and Vozinha makes the save.

Pretty poor.
