When two-time AEW World champ and all around pro wrestling legend Samoa Joe suffered a concussion in January, it left his faction The Opps a two-man operation. And it was clear he left word for puroresu veteran Katsuyori Shibata that his young protege Hook was in charge during his absence.
While in charge, Hook did line Anthony Bowens up for membership. Joe made Bowens official after he returned last month. So now that the boss announced he’s stepping away again during the third hour of AEW programming tonight (May 27) on TBS, it’s Hook in charge of Shibata and Bowens this time.
Where’s AEW’s Samoan named Joe going? He said “opportunity’s calling” and it’s “Hollywood ringing”. We assume that means he’s off to film season three of Twisted Metal, the Anthony Mackie and Stephanie Beatriz-led action-comedy video game adaptation that’s apparently one of Peacock’s biggest hits*. Joe does the physical performance for the masked character Sweet Tooth, while Will Arnett provides the voice work.
A tough week won’t stop The Opps!
The mission remains the same as opportunity continues to call!

What does it mean for The Opps? Will Capt. Hook keep them relevant without his mentor’s aura?

* Personally, I watched and enjoyed the first season. I started the second and was generally enjoying that, too. But I moved away from it due to a life event or some other distraction, and I forgot all about it until Joe’s announcement tonight.
