“You can continue playing the Free Trial free of charge”

Square Enix’s MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV Online finally landed on the Switch 2 last month, and Square Enix has now issued a reminder that the “free subscription period” for the “full version” of the game on this platform will soon end.
This free period, which was introduced to “help ensure server stability”, will end next week on 7th September 2026.
It’s further noted how the “30-day free play period granted when registering the Starter Edition or Complete Edition” will begin a day later on 8th September 2026. When this 30-day period has elapsed, a subscription fee will then be required to continue playing.
Square Enix also mentions how users with the Free Trial download can continue to play “free of charge”. Its support page expands on this: “Once your service account is upgraded to a full service account on any platform, you will no longer be able to revert back to a Free Trial account”.
“The Free Trial allows you to play for free up to level 80 and experience what FINAL FANTASY XIV has to offer.…The FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Free Trial includes four award-winning titles – FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn the base game, and the first, second and third expansions: FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward, FINAL FANTASY XIV: Stormblood and FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers.”
You can get the full breakdown about the subscription fees for the Switch 2 version of FFXIV in Square Enix’s FAQ.
