PS3's inFAMOUS 2 Sees an Explosion of New Players with Platinum About to Become Unobtainable 1

Sucker Punch’s classic PS3 superhero game inFAMOUS 2 will disable its online features on 31st August, sending players flooding back to New Marais to wrap up their Platinum Trophy pursuit.

Trophy website PSN Profiles pegs the title as the 10th most played PlayStation game on its servers over the past week, and while this only accounts for the seven million or so PSN accounts tracked, it still shows a remarkable uptick in activity.

In fact, its the only PS3 game listed among the site’s 50 most popular PlayStation games; Halloween spin-off game inFAMOUS: Festival of Blood – also impacted by the server closures – sits around 53rd.

You’d have to scroll a long way to find another PS3 game, the original inFAMOUS, which is unaffected by these changes.

Obviously given the nature of the website, this is definitely Trophy hunters working to secure their Platinums before they become unobtainable. But it does show an ongoing interest in the inFAMOUS franchise at large.

Rumours of some kind of PS5-based inFAMOUS collection have been swirling for some time, as the first two titles remain frustratingly locked to Sony’s last-last-gen system, with no other way to play them.

I’m hopeful that this server closure is prep work for inFAMOUS making a comeback, as I’d love to play the original games re-released on modern hardware – I think they’d hold up at a higher resolution and faster framerate.
