Property Accountant

Our SelectLeaders client, an established real estate development, investment, and property management firm, is seeking a Property Accountant to manage full-cycle accounting responsibilities across a portfolio of residential and commercial real estate assets.

This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring accurate and timely property-level financial reporting while partnering closely with property managers and the broader accounting team. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in property accounting, is highly organized and detail-oriented, and is comfortable taking ownership of accounting responsibilities across multiple properties and entities.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Manage full-cycle accounting for an assigned portfolio of residential and/or commercial properties
  2. Own the monthly accounting and close process for assigned properties
  3. Prepare, review, and post recurring and adjusting journal entries
  4. Review general ledger activity and research and resolve discrepancies
  5. Complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations
  6. Prepare monthly financial statements, workpapers, and supporting schedules
  7. Review financial statements for accuracy and identify unusual activity or variances
  8. Review and approve accounts payable coding
  9. Manage fixed asset accounting and management fee invoices
  10. Complete operating expense recoveries, billings, and CAM reconciliations
  11. Support W-9 and 1099 reporting, use tax reporting, and unclaimed property reporting
  12. Assist with annual property budgets and budget-to-actual variance analysis
  13. Support year-end accounting, audits, compliance requests, and other reporting requirements
  14. Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation across multiple entities
  15. Work closely with property managers and vendors to resolve accounting questions and discrepancies
  16. Serve as an accounting resource for questions related to property financials, coding, expenses, and reporting
  17. Assist with accounting process improvements, documentation, and special projects as needed

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  2. Previous property accounting experience required
  3. Experience managing the full accounting cycle for multiple properties
  4. Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  5. Residential/multifamily property accounting experience strongly preferred
  6. Commercial real estate accounting experience is a plus
  7. Experience with CAM reconciliations preferred
  8. Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  9. Experience with MRI and/or Yardi strongly preferred
  10. Knowledge of GAAP and property-level financial reporting
  11. Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and consistently produce accurate work
  12. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Compensation & Benefits

  1. Compensation: $80,000–$98,000 annually, with discretionary bonus potential
  2. 401(k) with company matching
  3. Paid Time Off: 5 hours earned per paycheck, up to 120 hours annually to start
