“How can I be sure you won’t deceive me?” Global Constellation has unveiled the festival promo trailer for the World War II noir thriller film tilted Wild, Wild East, made by Polish filmmaker Jan Holoubek. This is premiering at the 2026 Toronto Film Festival this month, hence this first trailer revealing now to build some buzz. Set in occupied Poland in the middle of the Second World War, Holoubek’s tour-de-force is part suspenseful western, part gritty wartime noir. In 1943, the remote Polish town of Małe Zalesie lives under the shadow of occupation. The arrival of a German officer trying to find missing gold with a dark secret of his own sent to investigate the disappearance of a Polish lawyer stirs up old rivalries and shifts loyalties, as the town becomes a stage for betrayal and survival. Itay Tiran as German official Martin Wolff, along with Joanna Kulig, Jan Bülow, Robert Więckiewicz, Aleksander Yatsentyuk, Piotr Trojan, Borys Otawa, Magdalena Różczka, Jacek Beler. Featuring a score by Jan Komar. TIFF adds: “A suspenseful western meets wartime noir, this genre-blending film will resonate far and wide.” This looks like a solid noir with some intense scenes as the town descends upon him. Keep an eye out for it if you’re intrigued already.
