Passenger’s bizarre use of drinking glass on flight leaves travelers horrified

An EVA Air business-class passenger left fellow travelers aghast by using a drinking glass to vigorously scratch his scalp while he was seated in the middle of the flight.

The odd incident aboard a recent flight out of Taiwan on Sept. 24 was all caught on video.

The man aboard the Boeing 787 Dreamliner apparently decided that the best way to soothe an itchy head was to vigorously massage his scalp using the rim of a drinking glass.

The bizarre in-seat grooming routine was spotted by a horrified fellow passenger seated directly behind the amateur masseur, according to news outlet Viral Press.

Watching the traveler drag the rim of the upside-down cup through his hair repeatedly and all across his scalp made the witness feel the premium cabin experience had taken a drastic and unexpected turn.

“This is disgusting. It’s a cup, not a massage comb,” the appalled witness complained.

Losing all appetite for the upcoming meal service, the passenger who recorded the video said, “No one wants to eat your dandruff. I’m really going to vomit,” Viral Press reported.

The EVA Air flight landed safely, NewsFlare reported.

The company, headquartered in Taiwan, was founded in 1989, according to its website.

Texas-based etiquette expert Diane Gottsman told Fox News Digital that “using a glass to scratch [one’s] head is completely inappropriate,” particularly while in public and surrounded by other people.

“Any time you see someone scratching themselves with an object, or even scratching themselves with their fingers in a public area — it’s unappealing and somewhat alarming,” she added.

In recent years, several flyers have complained that fellow passengers are crossing the line when it comes to public-facing behavior aboard planes.

In March 2026, a passenger was slammed for putting feet up on a window.

At the time, a Reddit user blasted the other traveler.

“First time experiencing the feet in my face in five years. Travel monthly. In first class, and this lady put her feet on my arm rest. I shoved them off.”

The writer continued, “And five minutes later, she has them up on her window. At least she has socks on. But come on, people! It’s a 4.5 hour flight.”

Said Gottsman, “When you’re in your home, you are in a private space. [But] when you are out in public, there are different standards because you are around other people and must be aware of your surroundings and the comfort level of others.”
