“I’m tired of being your shadow.” Mubi has revealed the first official US trailer for the highly acclaimed new film Minotaur, the latest work from award-winning Russian filmmaker Andrey Zvyagintsev (also of The Banishment, Elena, Leviathan, Loveless). The film premiered at the 2026 Canes Film Festival, and is also playing across all the major fall festivals: Telluride, Toronto, New York, Zurich, London, and many others. Set against the backdrop of a provincial Russian small town in 2022, it follows business executive Gleb, who is on the verge of laying off his employees when he discovers that his wife is having an affair. The film is technically a remake / re-adaptation of the 1969 French film The Unfaithful Wife by Claude Chabrol, which was already remade into the 2002 film Unfaithful. However, it’s also very dark, deep, nuanced commentary on moral brain rot today (as I explained in my Cannes review). Minotaur stars Dmitriy Mazurov as Gleb, Iris Lebedeva as Galina, Boris Kudrin, Yuriy Zavalnyouk, and Varvara Shmykova. This is one of the best films of 2026 and it should’ve won the Palme d’Or in Cannes – it was about to but instead got the second place prize.
