“Why are you being weird?” “I’m friends with boys now.” Vertigo Releasing has unveiled their first official trailer for the film Extra Geography, an indie comedy from the UK about two best friends at a boarding school. This intiailly premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival back in January, and recently played at the Melbourne & Edinburgh Film Festivals. Set in an English boarding school, Extra Geography follows two teenage girls (Flic and Minna) as they grapple with all the challenges of girlhood: friendship, boys, studies, growing up and their summer project, “to fall in love”. Which causes a rift in their friendship once things start to heat up. This stars Marni Duggan, Galaxie Clear, Alice Englert, and Aoife Riddell. Sundance adds: “Extra Geography offers a bittersweet lesson in unsinkable friendship: in life, love, and Shakespeare, someone always gets upstaged.” This is a very quirky, distinct indie creation about female friendship and the prickly sides of it – especially when romance gets involved. With comparisons to Lady Bird and Frances Ha from reviews. An indie discovery from Sundance worthy of finding an audience beyond the fest. Take a look.

This initially premiered at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year and recently played at the Edinburgh Film Fest.
