Official Trailer for ‘Just an Illusion’ A French Coming-of-Age Comedy

Just an Illusion Trailer

“Life’s about choices.” “I’m not you!” MetFilm UK has revealed a new official trailer for the French coming-of-age comedy film titled Just an Illusion, which already opened in France back in April. It’s the latest highly acclaimed comedy from the French filmmaking duo Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano, known for their hit films The Intouchables, Samba, and The Specials. It’s 1985. Vincent, almost 13, lives in the suburbs of Paris, caught between an older brother who brushes him off and parents who never stop arguing. No longer a kid but not quite an adult, Vincent fumbles through life’s big questions: identity, friendship, family, first crushes… and why adults don’t seem to have things figured out either. Indeed. Starring Simon Boubil as Vincent with Camille Cottin & Louis Garrel as his parents Sandrine & Yves, whose troubled relationship forms the emotional backdrop to Vincent’s journey. Plus Pierre Lottin as his brother Etienne. This looks like it has the same old school vibes as a John Hughes movie. I’m always down for an amusing 80s comedy.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Nakache & Toledano’s film Just an Illusion, direct from YouTube:

Set in 1985, Just an Illusion follows Vincent (Simon Boublil), a boy on the cusp of turning 13 who finds himself suspended between childhood and adolescence. Living in the suburbs of Paris, Vincent struggles to understand the complicated world around him. His older brother keeps him at arm’s length, his parents are constantly arguing, and the questions surrounding identity, friendship, family and first love become increasingly difficult to answer. As he stumbles through life’s defining moments, Vincent slowly realizes that adulthood doesn’t come with all the answers either. Just an Illusion, also known as Juste une illusion in French, is written and directed by acclaimed French filmmakers Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano, also directors of the films Let’s Be Friends, Those Happy Days, The Intouchables, Samba, C’est la vie!, The Specials, and A Difficult Year previously, plus a few other films. Produced by Nicolas Duval Adassovsky. This initially opened in French cinemas in April 2026 earlier this year. Just an Illusion next opens in the UK cinemas starting on September 11th, 2026. Still no US release date set yet – stay tuned. Look any good?
