No matches for SmackDown? Good, keep it that way

This morning, my colleague Cain A. Knight — whose name I’ve suggested changing to avoid confusion with LA Knight — led his weekly SmackDown preview with the fact tonight’s broadcast is missing, ugh, wrestling matches.

I suppose it’s reasonable to expect — hell, even demand — wrestling matches on a wrestling show. But honestly? I’m over it.

Look, here’s what you’ll see tonight, no matter the match or who’s in it:

  • A “This is awesome,” chant for something barely above average
  • Dives
  • The audience, zoning out before going into business for itself
  • More dives

Miss me with that nonsense. Despite my mostly carb-free lifestyle, I’m hooked on WWE’s sugary drama. I don’t want anymore of that wrasslin’ so many of you are fixated on.

Give me more monologues, music, backstage chaos, and random acts of carnage.

And let me yeet, goddamnit!

Give me ALL of that… sans Jelly Roll, of course.

I want more of what we saw on Raw this week: banter and beatdowns. That’s what real wrestling is all about. Sure, there were matches — four, to be precise. I could have done with two, but I’ll allow it because the real highlights had nothing to do with flips and headlocks.

All anyone was talking about on Tuesday was Gunther’s surprise return and attack on Seth Rollins, a thrilling face-off between Brock Lesnar and Oba Femi, with Femi wrecking anyone standing in his way, and CM Punk putting Roman Reigns through a table.

Oh, and there was a nasty showdown between Liv Morgan and Stephanie Vaquer that came about after Morgan said some unkind words about Vaquer’s mom in Spanish.

All of which was pure fire that perfectly set the stage for WrestleMania, where the matches we all want to see will take place.

Still, if you’re a purist who insists on watching wrestling, then hit up Main Event — that’s what it’s there for.

Speaking of Main Event, what a solid episode it was this week. The only thing better was the weekly recap, which I highly recommend reading. You can check it out here.

Now, who’s with me on wanting less wrestling and more sports entertainment?

Also, what do you think of the name, C.A. Daily? Asking for a friend.
