As Zelda’s anniversary celebrations begin
Over the past year, Nintendo has been celebrating Mario’s 40th anniversary, but it appears it might have finally ended.
As spotted on Nintendo’s official website in Japan, the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary webpage has apparently been updated with a message to fans, thanking everyone for joining in on these celebrations throughout the year. Here’s a rough translation:
Nintendo: “Thank you for helping us celebrate Mario’s 40th anniversary throughout the year, with game software, exhibits at the Nintendo Museum, special games against 12 professional baseball teams, and the theatrical film ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’. We appreciate your continued support.”

Nintendo hosted a Super Mario 40th Anniversary Direct last September. It featured the Galaxy movie, Super Mario Galaxy 1 + 2, new amiibo, Mario Tennis Fever, DLC for Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Yoshi and the Mysterious Book. Last month, Nintendo also added Super Mario Sunshine to the ‘Nintendo Classics’ GameCube library.
This week, Nintendo officially kicked off The Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary celebrations with a special Direct broadcast. It included updates about the upcoming live-action movie, Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, the reveal of a themed Switch 2 and Pro Controller, as well as multiple other product announcements.
