Nicole Kidman’s ex-husband Keith Urban attracted more speculation about how he’s coping with their divorce after he became emotional on stage on Friday.
The country music star, who was married to Kidman for 19 years until she filed for divorce in September, performed a ballad about an ex “moving on” during his show in Atlantic City.
According to video obtained by the Daily Mail, Urban could be seen wiping away tears during the performance. “This song is about a guy and a girl growing up in a small town. They were the first of their friends to fall in love,” the singer said, introducing the song.
“They had a good thing going, until the guy screwed it up,” he added. “I will do that.”
The weepy moment comes after reports that Kidman was spotted with American businessman Michael Reinstein, with whom she was photographed enjoying drinks on a hotel balcony in Italy and catching a ride from a California airport. Neither has confirmed a romantic relationship.
Kidman and Urban finalized their divorce in January. The former couple shares two teenage daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15. The Academy Award-winning actress stayed busy throughout the dissolution of their marriage, traveling the world with their children, appearing as a Chanel ambassador, and promoting her TV and film projects.
Just days prior to Kidman’s filing, Urban was rumored to have taken up with a “much younger woman” on the Nashville music scene, and was embroiled in a media storm surrounding flirty footage with one of his 25-year-old tour guitarists.
Kidman told British Vogue earlier this month that she feels good about her decision. “I had a different view of what my life was going to be, but this is what it is now,” Kidman said. “You make all these plans, and you have all these ideas of what it’s all going to be like, and then it’s… not. You have to adjust. You adapt. The future, it’s completely unknown to me right now.”
She also painted the choice as a no-brainer, telling the site, “I don’t overthink things, and I’m probably not that analytical. I’m far more feeling-centered, and I lead with my heart. I just go, ‘OK, what do I feel here? I’ll give it a go.’ It throws people, because I think they think I’ll be far more measured and I’m not.”
As for the potential for love in the future, she told the site she was “moving on, embracing love, staying open, keeping the heart open and the possibilities.”
