Watch: Megan Thee Stallion Addresses “Very Rough” Breakup From Klay Thompson
Megan Thee Stallion quickly learned that balance is a girl’s best friend.
The “Cognac Queen” rapper found herself becoming well acquainted with the lesson after she made her Broadway debut in Moulin Rouge!earlier this year and was rushed to the hospitalmid-show during her first week on stage.
“I thought I was having a stroke,” Megan admitted to Marie Claire in an interview published Sept. 29. “I wasn’t getting any oxygen to my brain, so my hands had froze. My face had froze. I was trying to tell everybody that I don’t think I’m okay. They only thought I was dehydrated.”
And as her costar KelsieWatts, who played Satine in the production, recalled of Megan’s illness during that March 31 performance, “She wanted to keep doing the show because she knew that so many hotties were there and so many people were excited to see her, but she had to [go].”
Once she reached the hospital, Megan was informed she wasn’t having a stroke but was exhausted and suffering from a panic attack. Thankfully, she found herself quickly on the mend and returned to Moulin Rouge! just two days later.
But the 31-year-old was adamant that she “didn’t want to let anyone down,” despite showing up to her performances every day “a little bit mentally not okay.”

After the experience, she realized that she had to keep her focus on the performance, cutting out all her extra activities, going from eight shows a week to seven and ending her eight-week run two weeks early.
As for where she is now, “I’m definitely trying to stay more hydrated,” she explained, “and be more calm.”
Watts also saw a difference in her costar, adding, “It was like a little bit of a better balance instead of her trying to put so much into one day and so much on her plate.”
Before joining Moulin Rouge!, the “WAP” singer confessed that wasn’t “aware of how much I was going to be putting my body through,” as doing a Broadway show differed from performing on tour.

“These people are working hard, like anybody in theater,” she said of her fellow cast members. “They’re working all week except for Mondays. I know they tired. Like, when I walked in that b—h, I be tired. And they be so happy and just upbeat. I stopped complaining.”
Still, regardless of the difficulties she faced with her health during her time with the show, it’s one she’ll never forget, saying, “It was one of the best experiences, as a performer, in my life.”
