Kôji Yakusho in ‘Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?’ Series Teaser

Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? Teaser

“Who the hell’s this old geezer?” Netflix has revealed a funny teaser trailer for Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?, a comedy series from Japan about a famous actor. Who returns home and discovers he’s not famous anymore – no one knows him. This clever new series stars superb Japanese actor Kôji Yakusho, who earned worldwide fame starring in Perfect Days a few years ago. This begins when Gen Takasegawa — a legendary actor once described as “known by every single person in Japan” — returns to Japan for the first time in two years after the pandemic, having found success on the London stage. Yakusho throws himself into wildly contrasting roles across a whirlwind of transformations: from a majestic King Lear to a homeless man, a menacing figure in a fur coat, and even a sauna attendant in a pink polo shirt and towel, fanning hot air over customers, among several other guises. Once a man at the height of glory and then reduced to zero, Takasegawa — a walking bundle of raw need for recognition — struggles through all kinds of situations & roles, clawing his way back up in a desperate, awkward journey you simply cannot take your eyes off. This looks like good fun! And especially entertaining watching Kôji Yakusho play all of these different characters.

Here’s the teaser for Kankurō Kudō’s series Did Someone Happen to Mention Me?, from YouTube:

Gen Takasegawa (Kôji Yakusho) is an actor of such renown that it’s said that every Japanese person on the planet knows his name. When he takes on the challenge of performing in Shakespeare’s “King Lear” at London’s prestigious Globe Theatre, he receives a standing ovation of thunderous applause for his efforts. However, upon his triumphant return to Japan, Takasegawa is met with a reality beyond anything he could have imagined: nobody knows who he is. It’s a fresh start from scratch for Takasegawa, a renowned actor who has now become a nobody. Will this renowned actor who has hit rock bottom truly be able to bask in the glow of the spotlight once again? Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? is a series written and created by Kankurō Kudō (“Let’s Get Divorced”, “A Town Without Seasons”, “Sunset Sunrise”). With eps directed by Fuminori Kaneko, Takuya Sakaue, and Atsushi Watabe. Produced by Kazuya Shimomura. Aki Isoyama as creative producer. Made by The Seven in association with Robot. Netflix debuts Did Someone Happen to Mention Me? series streaming on Netflix globally starting on October 22nd, 2026. Look good?
