Watch: Kelly Clarkson Tears Up Discussing End of Her Daytime Talk Show in Emotional Interview
Kelly Clarkson is looking forward to breaking away from some expectations.
Five months after announcing The Kelly Clarkson Show will end this year, the “Breakaway” singer jokingly pointed out how there are different rules for filming the NBC talk show versus performing as a musician.
“I would get fired [by] NBC, but I don’t work there anymore,” Clarkson joked to the crowd during the first night of her Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace July 17, according to footage shot by @jpasc24. “We are sad about [it]. It was a fun show.”
The Grammy winner went on to share her thoughts about attending human resources meetings, poking fun at how some situations she’s experienced on a tour bus would not fly in corporate settings.
“It’s funny, you go to those HR meetings and you’re like, ‘Nobody on the road would last,'” Clarkson explained. “It’s just a different world. I was 19 on a bus with dudes. ‘What? I can’t do what?’ ‘Yeah, that’s completely inappropriate.'”
The American Idol alum—who has been open about her weight loss journey—joked that people “say dumb s–t,” such as advising others not to “comment if someone’s lost weight.”
“I’m like, b—h! You better write a memo about it, write a song about it,” Clarkson quipped as the crowd laughed and cheered. “I just think that’s so dumb. It makes people feel good when you say, ‘Oh, you look really good.’ And then people are like, ‘No, ’cause that means that you meant they did look really bad.'”
The Voice coach then jokingly sang, “No more HR meetings!” before adding with a laugh, “I’m just kidding.”

But according to Clarkson, her coworkers weren’t thrilled about her presence in human resources meetings because she frequently pushed back and asked questions.
“Everyone actually hated doing HR meetings with me because I am a nerd,” she shared. “I would literally be like, ‘I’m sorry, so your example is …?’ I would stop the class and everyone would be like, ‘Can I do the meeting without Kelly?’ ‘Cause they’d have separate meetings, and everybody would opt out of any meeting I would be in.”
“I would just get into it because I feel like you need to get into it. You gotta protect everyone,” Clarkson added. “Anyway, I don’t have to do it anymore.”
In February, the 44-year-old revealed the news that her eponymous talk show will be coming to an end this fall after seven seasons.

Although Clarkson admitted that it was “not an easy decision” to make, she’s stepping away to prioritize her kids River, 12, and Remington, 10. The Emmy winner shared her kids with late ex-husband Brandon Blackstock, who died in August 2025 at the age of 48.
“I think everybody gets the timing,” she explained in a February interview on Today. “Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now. I think it’s one of those things like, you kind of start seeing life as how precious it is, too.”
And fans will still get the chance to watch Clarkson on the small screen. After all, she’s for season 30 of The Voice this fall.
