Kal Penn & Linda Hamilton in ‘Trust Me, I’m a Doctor’ Comedy Trailer​

“Do you honestly think you’d have done anything different?” Briarcliff Entertainment has debuted the first official trailer for Trust Me, I’m a Doctor, a dark comedy film based on a true story from the early 2000s. Written and directed by filmmaker Thane Economou, this film is based on the memoirs of and focused on Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, as played by Kal Penn. It’s also about the infamous death of American model, actress, TV personality Anna Nicole Smith – who passed at age 39 in 2007 due to combined drug intoxication. Led by Kal Penn as Dr. Sandeep Kapoor, Linda Hamilton as renowned defense attorney Ellyn Garofalo, and Abbie Cornish as Anna Nicole Smith, the film explores the very intense legal battle and media frenzy that followed one of the most sensational celebrity cases of the early 2000s. Was it really his fault? Or was it all her fault? Or is there something more going on here? Trust Me, I’m a Doctor hits theaters in October this fall. Starring Penn, Hamilton, Cornish, along with David Julian Hirsh, Dhirendra, and Dan Willmott. This looks like a clever way to tell this story, but I’m not sure there’s enough to it to make this all watchable.

Trust Me, I’m a Doctor follows Dr. Sandeep Kapoor (Kal Penn) after his life is turned upside down when he is implicated in the death of his former patient, model and reality television star Anna Nicole Smith (Abbie Cornish). Set against the height of the early 2000s tabloid era, the film chronicles Kapoor’s fight to clear his name as paparazzi descend on his office, police raid his home, private journals are leaked and every aspect of his personal life becomes public. With the guidance of respected attorney Ellyn Garofalo (Linda Hamilton), Kapoor must navigate a high-stakes drug conspiracy trial and confront the intersection of celebrity, justice, politics and personal redemption. Trust Me, I’m a Doctor is written and directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Thane Economou, director of the film The Wedding Party previously, and many other short films. Based on the book of the same name written by Sandeep Kapoor. It’s produced by Ryan Hawkins, Rebecca Case, Alex Engemann, Geenah Krisht. Briarcliff Ent. is debuting Economou’s Trust Me, I’m a Doctor film in US theaters starting on October 16th, 2026 this fall. Look any good? Want to watch?
