“We’re not held to the same standard as people who don’t look like us.” Blacklight has debuted an official trailer for the movie Wildcards, a court room thriller made by Wes Miller. This is out in theaters soon and will be touring around the US with Q&As and more, to engage the audience in a conversation about the film. Contrasting jurors debate evidence intensely as deliberations unfold. An enigmatic Wildcard witness arrives, claiming truth about the night, sparking turmoil. Her ties to the accused raise questions of bias and justice. Shot in real time, every day, the piece follows the trial of Theodore Sterling, a privileged young man accused of sexually assaulting a young Black woman. The case takes a shocking turn with the arrival of a mysterious “wildcard” witness who claims to know the truth—threatening to upend the entire trial. This stars Leon, Elise Neal, Aries Spears, Stakiah Lynn Washington, Crew Morrow, Samantha Walkes, Robert Catrini, and Courtney Grace (the news anchor from the end of Disclosure Day). Looks interesting but I’d also recommend Clint Eastwood’s Juror #2 instead, if you want to watch a compelling modern jury thriller.
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Wes Miller’s jury thriller Wildcards, direct from YouTube:

Wildcards blurs the line between cinema and theatre — shot in real time, every day, the piece follows the trial of Theodore Sterling (Crew Morrow), a privileged young man accused of sexually assaulting a young Black woman (Stakiah Lynn Washington). As jurors from vastly different backgrounds clash over the evidence, tensions escalate between the Assistant State Attorney James Jones (Aries Spears), a determined prosecutor, and Greg Sims (Leon), a veteran defense attorney with a flawless 25-year record. Wildcards is written and directed by filmmaker Wes Miller, director of the films Lily Grace: A Witch Story, Prayer Never Fails, River Runs Red, Atone, Hell on the Border, A Day to Die, Call Her King, and Black Heat, and a few other shorts previously. Produced by Andrew van den Houten & Wes Miller. This hasn’t premiered at any film festivals or elsewhere, as far as we know. Blacklight debuts the Wildcards film in select US theaters starting August 27th, 2026 coming soon. It’ll tour around the US – more info & tickets on the official site.
