It was a busy night in Arena Mexico with John Morrison in hair versus hair, Claudio Castagnoli defending the CMLL world heavyweight title, and the #1 contender emerging to challenge Mercedes Moné.
Johnny (aka Johnny Nitro, Johnny Mundo, Johnny Hardy, Johnny TV, Johnny Consejo, and the list goes on) can add another name, Johnny Bald. Johnny lost the hair versus hair main event to Angel de Oro in CMLL on Friday night (Feb. 27, 2026) from Arena Mexico.
Johnny got the upper hand early. He failed on a sneak attack, but he dodged a suicide dive as Angel crashed into the barricade. Angel was dead weight. Johnny grinded on offense and showboated with a dance. Once Angel rallied, the pace picked up with flashier moves, such as a corkscrew dive from Johnny.
Angel went for his Campana submission twice, but he couldn’t get a grip either time. Johnny unloaded his arsenal of finishers. Angel kicked out of Starship Pain, so Johnny went back up to do it again. Angel blocked the move and countered for a Mexican Destroyer. Kick out by Johnny. Angel went up top himself. Johnny pulled referee Aubrey Edwards in the way. When she fled, he kicked Angel in the groin. Johnny executed Moonlight Drive. Instead of going for the pin, Johnny set up for Starship Pain. He wasted time taunting the fans. Angel sprang up to shove Johnny onto the ropes. Angel followed for a Destroyer off the ropes. The luchador landed a frog splash for victory.
Time to pay off the bet. Johnny was still out cold on the mat. Angel took the clippers to shave a chunk of hair. Johnny woke up, so Angel superkicked him back to sleep. The professional barber earned his pay with a clean shave of Johnny’s head. When Johnny awakened, he panicked upon the realization that he was bald.
In terms of lucha libre action, the match was okay. It was all about the payoff of Johnny losing his hair for the happy ending to give the people what they want. The finish went over big.
In other noteworthy matches, Claudio Castagnoli retained the CMLL World Heavyweight Championship in a three-way over Akuma and Euforia. Claudio pulled ref Edwards in front to block Euforia’s path. Claudio took advantage for a big boot, the giant swing, and the Neutralizer to win.
Persephone defeated Olympia to become the #1 contender to challenge Mercedes Moné for the CMLL Women’s World Championship. Olympia was in control, then Persephone grabbed her off the ropes for the Razor’s Edge to win. The title bout takes place next Friday night on March 6 from Arena Mexico. There is a very good chance that Persephone dethrones the CEO.
