Watch: Jodie Sweetin Reveals Daughter Zoie’s College Plans: “The Right Next Step for Her”
Jodie Sweetin has a full heart on her sobriety journey.
The Full House alum recently reflected on how she and her former costar John Stamos have “really connected” over their recovery experiences.
“We have been there to celebrate each other’s big successes and milestones,” Sweetin said on the July 15 episode of The Dory Jackson Interview series, “and I am so glad that I got to be an example of attraction rather than promotion, which is a big principle in recovery.”
After all, her mindset since taking her last sip of alcohol in 2011 has been, “Don’t beat people over the head, just be the result of all of your work, and chances are, people that are looking will find you.”
Since Full House ended in 1995, Sweetin, 44, published her 2009 memoir unSweetined, which detailed her struggles with addiction and the steps—and setbacks—she took on her road to recovery. (For his part, Stamos, 62, shared in 2023 that a 2015 DUI experience prompted him to embrace sobriety.)
Now, Sweetin said she hasn’t had a drink since 2011 and is able to appreciate the road that’s led to who she is today.
“It’s been such a journey—the work I did in 12-step programs, the work I did in outside programs and therapy,” she continued, “and also just growing up and perspective—all of those things.”
Plus, the Hallmark Channel actress realized she became protective over the person she grew into.

“You get the opportunity to become a different person, and once you start actually liking that person, it becomes really hard to go back and continue destructive behavior,” she added. “You kind of go like, ‘Oh, wait, hold on. Maybe I want to take care of this little person inside here and see what they’re capable of.’”
Still, the process to get where she is today hasn’t been easy—but it’s been worth it.
“I’ve definitely fallen flat on my face along the way and learned hard lessons,” Sweetin said, “but who hasn’t? I don’t know anyone who has gotten through this life unscathed and that’s the point.”
