Huge men’s Owen Cup final, first New Japan star official for Forbidden Door

The final segments of AEW’s Summer Blockbuster edition of Dynamite tonight (June 10) gave us a few big pieces of the picture for the company’s Forbidden Door PPV with New Japan, CMLL and Stardom on Sun., June 28.

First, we got a video from NJPW’s Zack Sabre, Jr. The two-time IWGP World Heavyweight champ from England is a Forbidden Door staple, having appeared on all four previous iterations of the event — including a defense of New Japan’s top belt against his countryman Nigel McGuinness last year. In 2026, he wants to have his first one-on-one match with Kenny bai-Gawd Omega in almost eight years (since B Block of the 2018 G1 Climax).

It didn’t take long for Tony Khan to give that his stamp of approval. We also learned Omega will be back on Collision Summer Blockbuster this Saturday (it premieres June 13, but it tapes tomorrow night in Cincinnati). He’ll warm-up for the PPV in San Jose by taking on ZSJ’s TMDK teammate Bad Dude Tito.

After that, we learned about how MJF will get five friends to take on Mark Briscoe and his pals in a 12-man cage match at Forbidden Door. Read about who Max will get as he tries to prevent Briscoe from getting a shot and more AEW World title news here.

Finally, it was time for the main event (shout out Mark Henry and the cancelled Rampage). Swerve Strickland and Brody King rekindled their Revolution feud in Cincinnati tonight in an Owen Hart Foundation Tournament semi-final clash. Each man gave their all, as you’d expect given their history and the stakes of the match…

Strickland couldn’t win fair and square though. It took interference with a foreign object by Swerve’s righthand-man Prince Nana for him to earn a spot in The Owen finals at Forbidden Door.

In California on June 28, Strickland faces the man he fought at Forbidden Door two years ago. He’ll try to win The Owen and the AEW World title shot that comes with it. If successful, Swerve will prevent the man he teamed with at All In Texas last summer, Will Ospreay, from grabbing a main event spot in his home country when All In returns to Wembley this August.

Not that Swerve cares, since he’s a heel again now.
