How To Watch Adam Wingard’s Onslaught At Home

Adam Wingard’s bloody action film “Onslaught” is finally available to watch at home, and A24 will no doubt be hoping for somewhat of a reprieve following the film’s dismal box office performance. The film sees Adria Arjona play a woman who takes on a squad of super soldiers to protect her young daughter. It looked like a heck of a lot of pulpy fun when the “Onslaught” trailer dropped and appeared to promise a secret sequel to an action cult classic. Unfortunately, fans didn’t show up when the movie hit theaters on September 4, 2026. Now, A24 has put “Onslaught” on digital. As of October 6, 2026, the film is available to rent and buy from the usual digital platforms.

“Onslaught” is set in the same universe as Wingard’s 2011 slasher “You’re Next” and his 2014 action horror flick “The Guest.” It follows Arjona’s ex-Army sniper Celeste, who manages and lives at a trailer park with her young daughter, Daisy (Blake Kennedy). When three genetically-enhanced soldiers escape from a nearby facility and embark on a killing spree, Celeste is forced to embrace her military past to protect her daughter and put down the rampaging super soldiers.

“Onslaught” ultimately grossed $3.4 million at the box office on a $15 million budget, making it a commercial disappointment to say the least. Critics weren’t too impressed, either. All of which seems to have prompted A24 to give the movie a hasty digital release. As of October 6, 2026, you can purchase or rent “Onslaught” directly from the A24 store, or from the digital platforms such as Apple and Amazon. At the time of writing, there’s no price difference between the various stores (unless you count Kaleidoscope knocking 5 cents off the rental price).

As of now, a streaming release for “Onslaught” is yet to receive a release date. But A24 films typically debut on HBO Max per a deal between the studio and the streamer. Based on previous A24 movies’ release schedules, “Onslaught” should arrive on HBO Max within four months of its theatrical debut, so expect to see it around January 2027.

In the meantime, it will be interesting to see if “Onslaught” can make up for its poor box office run via digital sales, and indeed whether it can attain the kind of cult status of Adam Wingard’s previous low-budget efforts. While Wingard’s “You’re Next” quietly made a killing at the box office back in 2011, 2014’s “The Guest” made just $2.7 million on a $5 million budget (though it also became a cult classic). “Onslaught” made slightly more but had a much higher budget, making it even more of a commercial disappointment. A 58% critic score on Rotten Tomatoes likely didn’t help, either.

Critics weren’t too impressed with Wingard’s latest installment in what is now a loose trilogy of action horror titles. David Sims of The Atlantic found it to be “needlessly complex,” while Alissa Wilkinson of the New York Times thought the film became “distracted by style over any substance while pretending to make a serious point.” That said, /Film’s own Ryan Scott found Wingard’s “throwback, ultra-violent, action movie blast” to be an example of Wingard “thriving,” ultimately coming to the conclusion that “‘Onslaught’ kicks wholesale ass.” If you’d like to find out where you stand on the film and can’t wait for the streaming release, it’s available to buy and rent right now.
