Heather Rae El Moussa Says “Devastating” Home Robbery Changed Her Life

Watch: Heather Rae El Moussa Says “Marriage Can Be Hard” in Anniversary Message to Tarek El Moussa

Heather Rae El Moussa is opening up about a terrifying incident.

Nearly two months after her and husband Tarek El Moussa’s California home was burglarized while they were away on vacation with their kids, the Selling Sunset star shared she now thinks twice about what she posts on social media.

“It’s hard because my life is out there,” Heather exclusively told E! News at the KARMA Automotive Celebration in Los Angeles, Calif., on July 25. “I’m on a reality show and I’ve been sharing my life for so long. And you want to share your life, and especially I want people to follow along the journey.”

But since the robbery, the 38-year-old—mom to 3-year-old son Tristan with Tarek—has become more aware about sharing her whereabouts online.

“It’s definitely made me cautious and made me nervous,” she explained. “You don’t think it’s going to happen to you, and it does. And it was really devastating.”

Heather Rae El Moussa Proves Christina Haack Is Best Co-Parent With Her, Tarek El Moussa

Heather and Tarek—also dad to kids Taylor, 15, and Brayden, 10, with ex-wife Christina Haack—were away on a family vacation when their home was broken into sometime between 7:30 a.m. local time June 6 and 6 p.m. local time on June 8, the Newport Beach Police Department told People in a statement at the time.

According to police, “unknown suspects accessed the backyard of the property and shattered a rear sliding glass door to get into the house.”

“Inside the residence, the suspects ransacked the primary bedroom closet before fleeing through the backyard,” the statement added, “along the side of the house and out the front yard.”

Though no one was hurt during the robbery, the real estate agent’s family is still recovering from the mental toll of the ordeal.

“Time has passed, like a little bit of time, but it definitely was really hard on us, hard on the family,” Heather continued to E! News. “Your home is your sanctuary, and we were gone. And unfortunately, I posted in real time, so I learned from the mistakes, and they’re all lessons.”

One of those lessons being to implement heightened safety precautions in and around the couple’s home.

“It’s made us really focus and figure out upping everything at our house and being extra safe,” she added, sharing that though officials have not released an update on any suspects, they’re “working on stuff.”
