Greco-Roman concludes at U20 World Championships; U.S. places Top 15

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – The four-day Greco-Roman portion of the 2026 U20 World Championships ended on Wednesday evening at A4 Studio, with medal matches decided at 60 kg and 82 kg, and the team awards being presented.

The U.S. wasn’t represented in the Greco-Roman group three medal round, but the nation did find its way into the top 15 of the team standings, outplacing 32 other countries.

The bulk of the U.S. team points came from bronze medal finisher Aidan Squier, who posted a 3-1 record at 87 kg with notable come-from-behind wins over returning U20 World champion Luka Kochalidze of Georgia and 2017 U17 World bronze medalist Gabriel Stan of Romania.

Squier was the first medalist for Team USA at the U20 World Championships this week and the first Greco-Roman medalist since 2024, when three Americans made the podium (Isaiah Cortez, Otto Black, Aden Attao).

Also logging team points with top-10 finishes were two-time U20 World Team member Leister Bowling IV at 77 kg and two-time age-group World Team member Ezekiel Witt at 55 kg. Bowling IV is entering his second season with the University of Iowa. Witt is an NCAA qualifier heading into his sophomore year at North Dakota State University.

Another notable effort came from 2026 U20 Pan American bronze medalist Amryn Nutter at 67 kg. Nutter went to criteria, 1-1, with eventual champion Kazybek Kalmagambetov of Kazakhstan in his opener. Then, he battled through repechage with a 5-2 win over Sebastian Wagner of Germany before falling to 2025 U23 World champion Mohamed Abdelrehim of Egypt on criteria, 1-1, to wind up in 11th place.

Greco-Roman group three athletes Manuel Saldate at 60 kg and Arvin Khosravy at 82 kg finished outside the top 10 in their weight classes. Both lost competitive preliminary matches but were not afforded a repechage opportunity.

The Greco-Roman team title went to Russia, who outpaced runner-up Iran, 142-to-109. Uzbekistan found a spot on the podium in third with 95 points. Armenia and Azerbaijan rounded out the top five.

The action from U20 Worlds continues at 10 a.m. local time on Thursday with the women’s freestyle group two (55-62-65-76 kg) repechage, plus the women’s freestyle group three (57-59-68 kg) and men’s freestyle group one (61-86 kg) qualification rounds. Bratislava, Slovakia, is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Time.
